I started the year drawing kingfishers and then moved on to a stunning pair of gannets. The reference photo showed off their incredible beaks and bright blue eyes. It has been on my list to draw for a while and it didn’t disappoint! It’ll be heading to be professionally photographed in the next few weeks.

I’m continuing the theme of iconic British birds by drawing a red kite. Red kites are a reintroduction success story and we often see them on our walks and, in the winter, soaring high above our garden. All the feathers are a challenge to draw but each one has a different pattern and combination of colours so it’s keeping it interesting for me.
